Our kittens have grown quickly and, being apartment cats, they have had no occasion to walk on grass since we have adopted them. For their first birthday, we have given them the most beautiful present that a cat would want: be free in a big garden, paws on grass, and explore an entire new world.
Earlier today Jeff and I were shopping at our favorite animal food supplier, when we noticed something moving on the shelves. It was “live food” for reptiles, that included different types of insects. There is something terribly wrong with this: to keep a wild animal captive and feed him with another animal… alive. This is all but “the order of nature”. This is just sick.
Yahrzeit candles (Hebrew: נר נשמה, ner neshama, meaning “soul candle”) is a type of candle that is lit in memory of the Jewish dead. Yahrzeit candles are also lit during the day of Yom Kippur or during Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony (Yom HaShoah). Today is Jeff’s dad anniversary of death, so we have lit some soul candles for him.

Daffodil Day (or D-Day) is the largest single fund-raising activity of the Irish Cancer Society to support cancer research. The first Daffodil Day in Ireland was held in 1988, inspired by the Canadian Daffodil Day. Jeff had been volunteering at Daffodil Day for ICS as a street fund-raiser for many years; this year we did it together.
