In the heart of Clogher Valley, Co. Tyrone, is a 17th-century house offering a retreat in the the countryside. Corick House is a family-owned and managed hotel that offers a beautiful and comfy accommodation plus luxury Spa facilities. While many hotels offer Thermal suites, steam rooms and sauna, Corick House won our attention as soon as we discovered that they have a private room with steam room and an outdoor Jacuzzi.
As usual when our birthdays are approaching, we decided to give ourselves a treat and visit them. We booked one of their “Sneak away” offer. This is quite advantageous, as it offers the use of the Spa facilities (thermal suite and gym) for the entire length of the stay, the private room with Jacuzzi, a 25-minute couple massage, a night in a deluxe room with a complementary bottle of bubbly and strawberries, breakfast… and late checkout at 12. Not bad… at all!
Yesterday we left home at 8 in the morning, leaving Belfast and its rainy weather behind. At 9 we were already at Corick House, in a sunny, warm day. It really looked like a perfect day. The place is lovely: it features 43 luxury en-suite bedrooms, a bar/conservatory lounge, a restaurant, Spa facilities, three acres of gardens and a free car park. Close by are golf courses, equestrian centres and the lakes of Fermanagh. However, once you get inside Corick House, it’s difficult to let go. We just spent our time pampering ourselves and shuffling around in our white robes and slippers (we had an elevator bringing us directly from the room to the door of the Spa… what more can one desire?).
The only time we left the house was for a short stroll outside, while waiting for our room to be ready: Corick House’s garden is itself impressive: the drive is lined with 300-year old beech trees, leading to a Victorian walled garden. Here you can enjoy flower beds and shrubs, with a view over the rolling hills and the cathedral village of Clogher.
Just outside the garden was parked an original Daimler limo. We met the owner at one of the tables, and had a nice chat with him. He let us take some pictures with the car and explained to us that he owns a fleet of 20 of these beauties (for more info, check out his website). The rest of our stay was as pleasurable as it can get.
After such a treat, it’s not difficult to imagine that we’ll go back again. The feeling of deep relaxation and the pleasantness of the environment will stay with us even at home.
If you feel stressed, a staying at Corick House is definitely something you want to try!
